Our Homemade Marmalade Competition
Sponsored by Mackays of Dundee

If you love making marmalade then watch this space and prepare to enter our 12th World's Original Marmalade Awards Competition in 2017. Entry forms and competition deadlines to be announced shortly...

The Amateur Category for home-made marmalades has grown from 50 jars to over 2,700 jars in 2015, posted to us from all over the World, including Singapore, Japan, America, Canada, Spain, France, Gibraltar, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Alaska, Austria, South Africa, USA and South Korea. The full entry fee goes to support Hospice Care, both in the UK and around the world.

All marmalade makers readily rise to a challenge and enter their marmalades into whichever class catches their eye – from traditional Seville to Merry (with alcohol), Any Citrus, A Marmalade McNab - marmalade with Interesting Additions to be served with fish, fur or fowl, First Timers, Political, Children's, Man-made, Campanologist's, Military etc. There are new categories every year, and 2017's are to be announced very soon...

Each jar is tasted and marked by the Cumbrian W.I. together with a team of Artisan judges and where it attains sufficient marks is then awarded a Dalemain Gold, Silver or Bronze. Each entrant receives a mark card with the judges' feedback, a certificate designed by the artist Mungo McCosh and a thank you letter and two for one entry to Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens.

The best-in-show marmalade, is chosen from all the Gold Winners and is presented with a Dalemain Double Gold Award. The winner is then invited to have their recipe produced and scaled up by Fortnum & Mason (Dalemain’s southern outpost!) for a period of 1 year and it is sold at their store as well as in The Marmalade Shop at Dalemain. A sum of 50p from each jar sold is donated to Hospice at Home around the world.
